Reach for The Stars!!

Reach For The Stars!! is a fund raiser program that REWARDS your children for READING by giving them FREE BOOKS as well as new books OR cash to your organization. It is a pledge-based reading incentive program that returns over 100% back to the school and students in a combination of Usborne Books and cash.

What is the goal of the program?
The goal of Reach for the Stars!! is for the participants to read, or be read to for 300 minutes over a two week period of time. This is an average of 30 minutes per weekday as recommended by educational experts.

Who can participate?
This program is designed to benefit any organizational group, such as schools, individual classrooms, clubs, preschools, church groups, home school groups, charities, businesses, and public libraries.

Raising Pledges
Parents and children request pledges from mentoring friends and family members to encourage kids to read. Ask your organization if corporate sponsorships are available.

How do the kids benefit? They develop a reading routine and receive Usborne books and other prizes for participating. Together we can help children discover the joy of reading and give them the opportunity to choose their very own Usborne books to keep!

How can your organization benefit?
Reach for the Stars!! has a flexible option to meet all your needs from books for the library, classroom, community projects, or perhaps cash for a specific purpose. 100% of the pledges are returned to the participants and organization in a combination of all books to some books and some cash.

Example scenario:
Let's say "Jack" is taking part in the Reach for the Stars program in his school. Jack commits to reading 30 minutes a day for 10 days. Jack will request pledges from his family and friends: a penny per minute, 5 cents per minute and the like or a flat pledge. Let's say his Grandma pledges a flat pledge of $10.00. Jack will earn books based on all the pledges collected and the total minutes he has read. Let's say Jack read a total of 300 minutes (the goal set by his class) and collects $100.00 in pledges. If the Reach for the Stars percentages were to be as follows: All Books. That would be 110% in books! That's an additional TEN percent! Out of the $100.00 that Jack collected, he could receive $50.00 (50%) in Usborne Books & More and the school could receive $60.00 (60%) in Usborne Books & More. The book selection would be based on current availability from the entire Usborne & More catalog.

The child that commits to the program and has minimal participation will still earn at least one book ($4.99 value or less).

If the organization would prefer Books and Cash, typically the percentages would be as follows:
50% Books to the readers
20% Cash to Organization
30% Books to Organization

If all Books are chosen, the percentage in return would be 110%

Extra incentives beyond books:
Based on challenges or goals set, individuals or classrooms can earn incentives.
The boy/girl (or classroom) who has read the most minutes.
The boy/girl (or classroom) who has collected the most pledges.

Extra incentives can be an ice cream or pizza party for the classroom.
